BACK in 1982 he was a young boy helping E.T. phone home, but now he’s all grown up.
Henry Thomas, who played Elliott in the Steven Spielberg classic, is now 43 years old and he still has mixed feelings about the role that made him famous.
“Of course there have been times I regretted being the kid in E.T.,” said Thomas toThe Mirror.
“My world went completely crazy. I was that stupid kind of famous, where you can’t go anywhere.
“It was like that for the first six months after E.T. was in cinemas. I’d go out and get mobbed. I was a shy kid, and being approached by adults all the time just freaked me out.”
After the enormously successful film, Thomas had a break from acting but he later made a comeback in films such as Legends of the Fall and Gangs of New York.
Most recently he’s been playing T.J. Karsten in TV’s Betrayal, but no matter what he does, he knows he’ll never be known for anything other than E.T.
“I can guarantee almost every day I get someone going, ‘Hey, you’re the guy fromE.T.’, usually followed by, ‘What are you doing now?’,” said Thomas to The Mirror.
“And not a day has gone by when someone hasn’t shouted ‘E.T. phone home’ at me.”
