Michael Jackson was always against the idea of a white actor playing him on screen. But that hasn't stopped Joseph Fiennes being cast as the King of Pop in an upcoming TV comedy.

In the aftermath of 9/11, it is thought that Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando jumped in a hire car and drove from New York to Ohio in the hopes of getting home following the terrorist attacks.

Joseph Fiennes has landed the role of Jackson in the Sky Arts half-hour comedy, while Grease icon Stockard Channing will play Taylor and Brian Cox will portray Brando.

Back in 1993, Michael Jackson told Oprah Winfrey that the prospect would be "ridiculous". Since the casting of Fiennes in the one-off Sky Arts project, the interview has resurfaced once again.

"Why would I want a white child to play me? I'm a black American. I'm a black American. I'm proud to be a black American. I am proud of my race. I am proud of who I am."
