An incognito Sam Smith surprised a Denver reporter when he photobombed an interview without being recognised.

7News reporter Kyle Horan was conducting interviews at a local historic landmark, Red Rocks, when the Grammy Award-winning singer leaned into the frame.

During the interview, he makes faces and flashes a peace sign but isn't recognised by Horan or the women he's interviewing.

Smith declined an on-camera interview after his identity was revealed, but did tell 7News he was impressed by Denver but was having trouble breathing due to the altitude.
