Job interviews can be really awkward, and lets face it, who doesn't get a little nervous when you're going into a job interview? After all, this is something you want to nail so you can get that job!
Your potential boss can get alot of subconscious information from things you might now even realise your doing during the interview. So here are a few things to avoid during a job interview!
1: DON'T talk after the pause!
There’s a technique some job interviewers use. Once the candidate finishes answering their question, the interviewer remains silent. The point is to get the potential employee to continue talking to fill in the awkward silence. It's a way to get people to give up way more information about themselves than they planned. So when you're done, give them a little nod or something. It might seem even more awkward than the silence but you won't tell them something you don't want them to know
2: DON'T be honest
Now, we're not saying you should lie, but don't give it all away either. Just be really selective about what you reveal. When an interviewer asks you a question, they're often not looking for how honest you can be, they're looking at how good your judgement is!
3: DON'T answer right away
You're future boss wants to hear a good answer, not a fast one. So don't trip yourself up trying to answer a question too quickly. Take a second to think about it and make sure you've understood the question
4: DON'T fidget
We all get nervous, and that's ok! Having said that, composure under pressure is even more impressive, so try not to fidget.
5: DON'T be grateful
Well, not overly anyway. It's great to come across as humble and appreciative but if you give the impression you can't believe you're there, the interviewer might start asking if you deserve the position
6: DON'T sell yourself
You know all those "sales” techniques you've heard about? Yeah, don’t use those. Sell yourself by sharing your skills and traits, not with gimmicky gestures.
Don’t do the overconfident, manic handshake. A simple shake, a genuine smile and eye contact is all you need.
7: DON'T say you're a perfectionist
It's boring, and it's a cop out. Come up with a genuine weakness and give a great example of how you're overcoming it
8: DON'T talk about yourself
But isn't that the reason you're there? Yup! BUT, don't act like the company is generic and you're giving automated answers. Show that you're interested in them in particular.
When asked a question about yourself, use it as an opportunity to show you've done your research and know how they work. Then, talk about what you can offer the company.
Now you've got some info the other candidates don't, get ready to make some CASH
