If anyone ever needed an excuse to eat more bacon, this is it.
A study conducted by researchers from ETH Zurich shows that bacon may have the ability to add years to your life.
The study found that the beloved pork product is full of niacin, more commonly known as vitamin B3 – which has been linked to a longer life span. Niacin lowers cholesterol and is used to reduce the risk of heart attack and coronary artery disease, thanks science. The researchers found that niacin prolonged their lab animals (which were worms, worms love bacon) lives by one tenth.
If that wasn’t enough, the study also reported that niacin “tricks the body into thinking it’s exercising” – so put down the running shoes and just eat some bacon. 100g of our porky friend has about 54% of your daily value – so you should probably eat double that amount, right?
The vitamin is also found in paprika, sun-dried tomatoes and marmite.
