All the reasons you’ll want to escape to Marlborough for a bookish weekend away

Sometimes the best weekends are the ones that leave you feeling inspired long after you've unpacked your bag. If you're looking for an excuse to slow down, discover new ideas and spend time somewhere beautiful, the Marlborough Book Festival might be just the ticket.

From 24–26 July, writers and readers from across Aotearoa will come together in stunning Marlborough for a weekend filled with thought-provoking conversations, fresh perspectives and plenty of literary inspiration. Across the festival, you'll have the chance to hear from 17 different authors, each bringing their own stories, insights and experiences to the stage.

What makes the Marlborough Book Festival so special is that it was created by people who simply love books. Run by the Marlborough Readers & Writers Charitable Trust and organised by a passionate team of local volunteers, the festival began in 2014 after a group of book lovers decided Marlborough deserved a writers' festival of its own.

Thanks to the support of the local community and a growing audience of readers, it's become one of the region's most-loved cultural events.

Whether you're an avid reader, love discovering new authors, or simply enjoy meaningful conversations, there's something refreshing about stepping away from the everyday and immersing yourself in a weekend celebrating ideas, creativity and storytelling.

It's also the perfect excuse to explore everything Marlborough has to offer. Between festival sessions, wander through boutique shops, enjoy incredible local food and wine, soak up the region's winter beauty, or simply relax with your latest book and a great coffee.

Air New Zealand is helping make weekends like this possible by proudly backing our backyard through its Regional Sponsorship Programme, supporting 20 events in 20 destinations across Aotearoa.
