An Australian mum received a letter that no one ever wants to get, the social services saying that they overpaid you.

"You have been overpaid. We are, therefore required to recover this amount."

The mother of two from Victoria received the letter from Centrelink, and thought "Oh god! I didn't realise! Will I have to sell my house?!"

The letter went on to say "Our records show you have a debt of $0.02 and you have not made an arrangement to repay this debt."

"We would prefer to settle this matter without taking action."

Now that the social services were threatening her with court action, Kerry wasn't about to ignore this letter.

She decided to send them the money that she owed in the form of cold hard cash.

An old Australian 2c coin was taped to the response letter, which were pulled from rotation in 1992, along with a cheery message wishing the team a merry Christmas.

"I was tempted to send them a 5 cent piece and asking for the change" she jokingly states.

Kerry is obviously a strong believer in the old adage, 'ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer'. In her case it was ask for 2 cents, and you will receive 2 cents. In 1992 form that is.
