Disgraced Teacher Divorces Wife To Marry 18-Year-Old Student

Matthew Shane Wester, a former Alabama high school teacher, was accused of having 'sexual contact' with one of his students and put on paid leave from the school when it became public knowledge.

However, he then divorced his wife and married the alleged victim five months later.

Despite his 18-year-old wife, Amy Nicole Cox, being over the age of consent in Alabama, it is still a criminal offence for a school employee to have sex with a student.

However, according to Daily Mail, he's been slammed by the The District Attorney who claims the marriage is a sham, and only carried out so that Cox wouldn't be forced to testify against Wester when his trial begins.

Because the marriage happened so quickly, Blount County DA Pamela Casey said "It is the state's position that the marriage to the student is a sham by the defendant to prevent the student from testifying against him."

The trial begins on April 25 and he faces between two to 20 years in jail if convicted.
