Reason 135 why we love dogs!

Figo the golden retriever is a seeing eye dog, his owner, blind. Figo had gone above and beyond the call of duty to save his owner from an oncoming bus.

Out on a trip in New York with his owner Audrey Stone, a bus driver turned the corner without looking, Figo lept infront of the bus in an attempt to shield Audrey from harms way.

Audrey suffered a fractured elbow and ankle, 3 broken ribs and had a cut to her head.

Figo received a deep, severe cut on his leg, his fur still stuck to the bus and the footpath.

Paul Schwartz, a manager at the local Xtra Mart, saw the incident and ran out to help. He told The Journal News  "The dog was being a good sport, really calm. He sat with me the whole time. He was limping as we put him on a big blanket on the sidewalk and it started to rain. He let us wrap up his leg without any problem. He wasn't barking or crying or yelping. But he kept pulling toward her. After she was put on a gurney and taken away, he stopped doing that. He seemed a little lost after she left."

Audrey was taken to hospital in an ambulance but since dogs aren't allowed to ride in an ambulance, he was taken to the vet by the fire department where he went into surgery on his injured leg!

The dog took a lot of the blow," Brewster Police Chief John Del Gado told The Journal News. "And he did not want to leave her side. He stood right with her. He was there to save her."

Both Audrey and her dog Figo are now recovering
