If you’ve been hanging out to grab a bucket of popcorn and watch a movie on the big screen, you’re in luck.

Hoyts cinemas have revealed that from tomorrow, June 12 every single one of their movie theatres will be open to the public.

How great is that?!

The announcement comes after the successful re-opening of the movie theatres in Christchurch last week, following the nationwide lockdown to battle Covid-19 which saw cinemas across New Zealand close their doors.

In a statement, Hoyts revealed that guests can expect the usual movie-going experience, with food, beverages and tickets all being able to be ordered in advance.

"Movies released on the big screen will include those that were released just before the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic," the statement read.

"Including audience favourites Jojo Rabbit, Bloodshot and Sonic The Hedgehog. Plus, Trolls World Tour is now releasing just in time for the July school holidays. New release movies such as Tenet, Mulan, and Wonder Woman 1984 are expected to be released in the coming weeks and months."

The movie theatre company also say they will add additional cleaning protocols and encourage guests to book online.

Meanwhile, Event cinemas also have their own plans to re-open their cinemas soon.

Event has yet to announce a specific date but noted they are looking at showing older fan-favourite flicks ahead of the first new movie release, Tenet, which is set to debut on July 16.

"We are looking at how we may re-open on a limited basis with alternative and retrospective film content before mid-July," says Event Cinemas General Manager Carmen Switzer.

"We will make further announcements about a formal re-opening date soon. We know our customers cannot wait to visit us and we look forward to welcoming audiences back to their local cinema."

We’re sure movie lovers are as excited about this news as we are!
