A former high school bully in the US has taken the time to apologise to the gay student he tormented twenty years ago.

Chad Morrisette, a successful Los Angeles-based brand consultant and visual designer, received a surprise Facebook message from his former tormentor last week.

The man whose name has been withheld, explained to Mr Morrisette that he had been inspired to apologies after his young daughter questioned if he had ever bullied anyone

Mr Morrisette posted the man’s apology on his Facebook page and described how he had been bullied during junior high and high school just for being who he was.

'I was bullied for being gay. I was bullied for being little. I was bullied for every reason someone is bullied. It was awful. I couldn’t even walk to classes without an adult escort or friends with me.'

Mr Morrisette went on to thank his brother who defended him, as well as a teacher who helped him, before he posted the apology.

While Mr Morrisette could not remember the specific bully in question, he told Queerty that it took him a couple of days to process the apology, which brought him to tears.

In a reply message which he shared with Queerty, he said:’In 20 years you are the only person to apologize for being a bully to me when we were younger.’

‘I hope you can proudly tell your daughter that you have also apologized for it and that we are good.’

The former bully was thrilled that Mr Morrisette accepted his apology:'Your forgiveness means more than you know.'

He noted he hoped that others who has treated Mr Morrisette poorly would also take the time to apologise one day.
