Happy National Baby-Making Day! Why January 2nd is the year’s most fertile date

In case you missed the memo, today - January 2 - is officially National Baby-Making Day!

Yes, really. For couples hoping to conceive, this is the day that’s earned a reputation for being the most popular moment to, well… get things underway.

Here in New Zealand, the numbers back it up. Our busiest birth months are September and October, which line up perfectly with couples getting a little extra cosy over the Christmas and New Year break.

If you want to take things to an oddly specific level, one study even suggests that many couples attempting to "cook up some offspring" tend to make love at exactly 10:36pm on this so-called prime conception day.

The founder of Channel Mum, Siobhan Freegard, says: "Falling pregnant isn’t always easy, so couples who have been trying a while will attempt almost anything to help.

''While there isn’t much medical science to back up these tips, our members swear they have all helped, and we have hundreds of bouncing new babies to prove it.

''As long as you have fun trying, it’s always worth giving it a go."

So there you have it! Wishing all hopeful couples a very happy - and successful - National Baby-Making Day!
