Who else has shared their earphones with their friends and not thought much of it?

Well, it turns out this is not a good thing for us to be doing!

Kelly Reynolds, Ph.D., associate professor of environmental health at the University of Arizona, told BuzzFeed that because our ears are full of wax, dead skin cells and bacteria, swapping buds between mates is not a healthy thing to do.

As soon as we share our earphones with someone, we introduce our ears to new bacteria, making us more susceptible to infections!

The best way to avoid these infections is to regularly clean your earphones, according to Reynolds.

It may sound over the top, but it's actually really important to disinfect them at least once a week!

"When you disinfect, make sure to clean any waxy residue off first, then wipe down the earbuds with a cotton ball dampened with disinfecting spray or rubbing alcohol."
