'House Of The Dragon' star reveals the one thing he can't wait for fans to see

Steve Toussaint might command fleets and face down dragons on House of the Dragon, but in person, he’s warm, funny - and still a little in awe of the world he gets to be part of.

Touching down in New Zealand to mark the launch of HBO Max, the actor - best known as Corlys Velaryon - stopped by The Hits studio while on his first-ever trip to Aotearoa. The visit was brief, but impactful.

“My first time in New Zealand, yes. I’m so excited … I’ve had a chance to see a little bit of it, and I like it.I’mgoing to have to come back and do it properly," he tells The Hits night show host, Brin Rudkin.

It’s a fitting introduction to a country that’s just gained access to one of the biggest shows on television - and heading into what sounds like a massive third season.

But Toussaint’s own journey into the Game of Thrones universe was far less straightforward. In fact, it started with an audition so secretive, even he didn’t know what he was reading for.

From there, Toussaint stepped into one of the show’s most commanding roles-and into a production that operates on a scale few series can match.

Even now, years in, it hasn’t lost its sense of surrealism.

“This is how I make my living? This is mad,” he admits.

While Toussaint is careful not to spoil what’s ahead, one thing is clear: the opening episode is set to deliver.

“We put a lot of work into it… I hope people are happy,” he says, noting he’s especially excited for longtime fans of the story to see it come to life.“People who have read the books have been waiting for this battle for quite some time.”

If you’re still somehow late to the party, Toussaint sums up the show up perfectly:

“[House of the Dragon] is basically… the story of a family at the height of their power who then decide to tear themselves apart... with dragons.”

With HBO Max now streaming in New Zealand, House of the Dragon is finally right at your fingertips - dragons, drama and all.
