Last week streaming company Netflix announced it would be cracking down on users that are using geo-dodging technology to view content that is not available in their home country.

It appears that Netflix has followed through on its threat already, as a Melbourne-based company, uFlix, has reported that a small number of its users have had their geo-dodging technology banned by the streaming service.

In a blog post uFlix said that some of its users have received messages from Netflix when they logged on.

“You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again,” the message read, according to uFlix.

Rather than admitting defeat, the service have sent a message to its users.

“We are working on a solution to get around these new measures and apologise for the inconvenience to those who are currently only getting Australian Netflix,” it wrote.

Another company, Express VPN, have said it has also received reports of Netflix blocking its customers from using a virtual private network to gain access to another country’s library.

“We are well aware of this issue and our engineers have already started working on a solution for it,” a spokesman told news.com.au
The company said it is confident that Netflix will not be able to stop its customers from using the US site.

“After trying our solutions, they can already access their Netflix once again,” the spokesman said. “In case you should ever encounter difficulties in watching Netflix, please contact our support team for additional assistance.”

No word yet on when they will begin blocking proxies over here, but if it's already started happening over the ditch it's not looking good for us here in NZ.
