Prince George and Princess Charlotte are to attend Queen Elizabeth's funeral

Prince George and Princess Charlotte are to attend Queen Elizabeth's funeral at Westminster Abbey.

The late monarch passed away on September 8 at the age of 96 following a 70-year reign and both Prince George, nine, and his seven-year-old sister - who are the children of William, Prince of Wales, and his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales -  will reportedly walk behind the coffin of their great grandmother on Monday (19.09.22).

According to The Guardian, the coffin will be followed directly by King Charles - who acceded to the throne the moment his mother passed - and his wife Queen Consort Camilla, with the young royals to walk behind their grandparents.

Further reports went on to allege that Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be followed by Anne, Princess Royal - who is the daughter of Her Late Majesty and her late husband Prince Philip -  and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, then the Duke of York, followed by the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and then the Prince and Princess of Wales.

However, four-year-old Prince Louis - who the youngest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales - is reportedly not expected to attend the funeral at all.

Before the service - which is due to start at 11am and last for one hour - the tenor bell will be tolled every minute for 96 minutes and Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, will then say in The Bidding: “Here, where Queen Elizabeth was married and crowned, we gather from across the nation, from the Commonwealth, and from the nations of the world, to mourn our loss, to remember her long life of selfless service.”

Earlier, The Prince and Princess of Wales were "considering" taking Prince George to Queen Elizabeth's funeral.

Prince William and his wife Catherine were reportedly asked by advisors to take their eldest son - who is now second in line to the throne behind his father - to the service at Westminster Abbey on Monday evening (NZT) but they have yet to agree to having the nine-year-old join them.

A source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: "Courtiers are keen for Prince George to be at the funeral in some capacity, if only to reassure the nation of the order of succession."

Another source added: "It's currently under discussion. No decision has been made yet."

None of the couple's three children have been seen in public since the Queen died on September 8, but on Friday, Savannah Phillips, 11, Isla Phillips, 10, Mia Tindall, eight, and four-year-old Lena Tindall joined their parents, Peter Phillips, and Zara and Mike Tindall, at Westminster Hall to witness their grandmother Princess Anne stand vigil over her mother's coffin alongside her three brothers, King Charles and Princes Andrew and Edward.

Last week, William - who also has Princess Charlotte, seven, and four-year-old Prince Louis with his wife - admitted walking in a ceremonial procession that took the Queen's coffin from Buckingham Palace to her lying in state had been "challenging" and "brought back a few memories" of the time when he and brother Prince Harry had walked behind the coffin of their mother, Princess Diana, 25 years ago.

The Prince of Wales was just 15 at the time, while his younger brother was 12, and William previously said it was "one of the hardest things" he had "ever done".

Harry previously said: "I don't think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances."
