PSA: Gin and vodka could actually save you from hayfever this summer

Sniffle-free summer? Why gin might be your secret hayfever hack.

Don’t get us wrong, summer is one of the best times of the year… but with the sunshine comes the sneezing, and we are not here for it.

Runny noses, watery eyes, endless sneezing - hayfever can be brutal. But good news: there might be a surprisingly refreshing way to keep symptoms at bay.

According to Asthma UK, your hayfever “cure” could be hiding in a classic gin and tonic.

It turns out that clear spirits like gin and vodka may help reduce hayfever-like symptoms. Gin in particular contains no sulphites, a group of compounds known to trigger asthma and allergy flare-ups.

On the flip side, beer and cider can make things worse thanks to fermentation and their naturally high histamine levels.

Of course, everything in moderation - but a chilled vodka soda or crisp G&T might be just the sneezing solution you’ve been looking for.
