Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair recreate iconic 90s movie kiss with hilarious 2020 twist

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair recreated their iconic Cruel Intentions kiss with a COVID-secure twist for the 2020 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest Of All Time.

The pair won the Best Kiss award at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards, and they were honoured with the Legendary Lip Lock accolade.

In homage to the scene from the 1999 teen rom-com drama - in which they starred as Kathryn Merteuil and Cecile Caldwell respectively - the pair attempted to kiss again, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, as they went to lock lips, a glass screen hilariously dropped down between them, leaving them slobbering all over it.

Sarah and Selma were sat outside on patio chairs to discuss the famous kiss and recalled how it helped "so many" young people identify and feel confident with their sexuality.

Selma, 48, said: "I think the reason the kiss has resonated with people for so long is not just for the initial shock value but because it was a catalyst for so many young people to help them realise certain aspects of their sexuality and help make people comfortable to be who they really are."

To which Sarah, 43, replied: "It also represented a paradigm shift to a new dynamic towards acceptance in pop culture. Also, it was super hot."

Before attempting the kiss again - which they did manage to re-create at the 2002 MTV Movie Awards - Selma said: "So as a special thanks. We’d like to recreate it."

The last time the Hollywood duo re-created the lip-locking session was when they reunited with co-star Reese Witherspoon to watch a musical parody of their film Los Feliz in 2015.

The Vanessa Hudgens-hosted ceremony also saw the likes of Kevin Bacon, Gal Gadot, the late Chadwick Boseman, and Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler take home golden GOAT awards.

The Footloose star appeared in a box with real-life goats at the ceremony to quip about being crowned the winner of the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) Dance Your A** Off accolade for his "life-changing" role as Ren McCormack in the 1984 dance movie classic.

In his speech, Kevin said: "Oh wow. I can't believe it. I'm so excited to be winning this golden GOAT award for dancing my a** off all those years ago.

"I am truly honoured.

"I just want to say thank you to Herb Ross (director), Craig Zadan (producer) and Dean Pitchford (screenplay) for giving me the opportunity to be in that life-changing movie.

"And also I want to thank Lynne Taylor-Corbett, who taught me all those GOAT-worthy moves all those years ago."

Turning to the goats, Kevin said: "Guys, we've got a golden GOAT, can you believe it?"

Chadwick Boseman - who passed away this year following a secret battle with cancer - was posthumously honoured with the GOAT Hero For The Ages prize for his iconic titular role in Black Panther, with fellow Marvel stars Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr. presenting the accolade.
