Is there a more beautiful form of the English language than that of the swear word?

A guy in our office is always getting told off for swearing too much. In fact, there's a stereotype that swearing often happens with people who are under educated or have a poor vocabulary. Well, now scientists have stepped in and said that RUBBISH!

Researchers have found that curse words are actually an emotional and creative form of the English language. Their study showed that we use profanity as a coping mechanism in times of stress and that doing so makes us feel more resilient, confident and stronger.

The researchers at Keele University in Staffordshire have been exploring the links between swearing and mental health for several years now, and recently presented their study to the British Psychological Society's annual conference in Birmingham.

Participants of the study were asked to play aggressive computer games and it was found that they could recall a wider variety of swear words after their session than before.

Senior lecturer, and my new hero, Dr Richard Stephens told the DailyMail: "The video games made people feel more aggressive so their language became more emotional and they swore. This explains swearing and makes it more acceptable."

"We want to use more taboo words when we are emotional. We grow up learning what these words are and using these words while we are emotional can help us to feel stronger," he added.

A previous study also revealed that swearing makes us feel less pain!

So basically next time you feel like letting loose and telling the world about it, just tell your folks that science says it's healthy.
