Four Vandalia firefighters were on their regular Sunday morning grocery trip when they received an emergency medical call. They immediately dropped everything to respond, and didn’t check out, simply abandoning their groceries with the chance that they could save a life.

So when they came back to the Kroger to purchase the groceries they had been forced to leave behind, they were pleasantly stunned by what they discovered: their groceries had already been paid for by a generous, anonymous citizen. And that wasn’t all the person left for them. On the grocery receipt was a kind note.

“Thank you for your service! All of you helped when I had a fire earlier this year. God Bless!”
