It's been revealed the best time to post on Instagram is at 5pm on a Wednesday.

Latergramme, an Instagram scheduling service, analysed more than 61,000 posts to figure out what time photos received the most 'likes' and comments.

Posting around 5pm will grab the attention of commuters and people who are procrastinating at the end of the end of their workday.

Matt Smith, founder of Latergramme, has some theories about 5pm, "We think this is because less people are posting at that time and that more engaged users are using Instagram at that time," he told HuffPost.

Another Instagram sweet spot is 2am in the morning and the reason for this- there's fewer people posting at that time, so less competition for likes, and these early morning users are more engaged.

According to Latergramme, the most engaged time on Instagram shifts from day to day.

• On Mondays, 5pm is not the best time- engagement is higher later on at 7pm and again at 10pm.
• On Fridays, 1am and 8pm are optimum posting times.
