They say that a well-crafted tattoo can be considered a work of art in itself. 

But some inkers seem to take their inspiration from the terrifying scenes of Goya and Hieronymus Bosch if their work is anything to go by. 

People have been sharing the most terrifying - but hilarious - examples of tattoos gone wrong on Instagram, proving that it always pays to hire only the most talented of needle artists. 

And it's also crucial to make sure your inker has a good grasp of the basics of spelling and grammar, or you'll end up like the woman who know has a tattoo on her arm, saying: "My kids is my strength".
