'Why Are The EFTPOS Machines So Loose?!' - Countdown Responds!

Earlier today we shared a complaint that is the epitome of a first-world problem.

A Wellington man posted a video on Countdown's Facebook page complaining about their loose EFTPOS terminals at the self-serve checkouts and indicated the frustration that these cause him. The complaint had received over 1,000 'likes' and 20,000 views.

HUNDREDS of you responded with comments about how the loose EFTPOS machines annoy you too and raised a number of questions such as 'Why are they so loose?', 'Is there a reason?'  and 'Will they ever be fixed?'

We put the matter to Countdown and they very kindly responded with a very logical reason. The self-serve terminals have extra long chords to ensure that they are easily used by customers in wheelchairs! It all makes sense now!

A Countdown spokesperson also added "Good news Countdown customers! Planning was already in the works, and we are rolling out new eftpos machine cradles across all 174 Countdown stores starting very soon. A sturdier eftpos experience is on the way!"
