While she's best known for playing the feistiest member of the Pink Ladies, it turns out for Will Smith Stockard Channing is better known for capturing his heart.

The 53-year-old actor - who starred alongside the actress in the 1993 movie Six Degrees of Separation - has admitted to falling in love with Stockard while he was still married to his first wife, Sheree Zampino.

Sharing a more vulnerable side of himself in his new memoir, Will, Smith - who had just welcomed son Trey with Zampino - spoke about how he remained in character even while off the set of the drama film.

In excerpts of which have been released by People magazine - Will shared: "Sheree and I were in the first few months of our marriage with a brand-new baby and for Sheree, I can imagine that this experience was unsettling, to say the least.

"She'd married a guy named Will Smith and now she was living with a guy named Paul Poitier [his character's name in the film].

"And to make matters worse, during shooting I fell in love with Stockard Channing," he continued.

"After the film wrapped, Sheree and Trey and I moved back to LA. Our marriage was off to a rocky start. I found myself desperately yearning to see and speak to Stockard."

However, as his romantic feelings for Channing grew, their relationship remained professional.

Smith and Zampino were married from 1992 to 1995.

In 1997, Will Smith tied the knot with Jada Pinkett Smith. The couple have been married for 24 years.
