A woman in the USA who decorated her garden with rainbow-colored mason jars has brought out the worst in an anti-gay, bigoted neighbor.

The mother of four and widow received a hate-filled note rolled and stuck under her front door. The letter apparently came from a neighbor asking Baker to "tone down" her "relentlessly gay" garden.

The note read:

"Dear Resident of ________,
Your yard is becoming Relentlessly Gay! Myself and Others in the neighborhood ask that you Tone It Down. This is a Christian area and there are Children. Keep it up and I will be Forced to call the Police on You! Your kind need to have respect for GOD.
A Concerned Home Owner."

"The point of the rainbows isn't about being gay," she told City Paper via Facebook chat. "It's because we love rainbows. I have a rainbow tattoo on my arm. We're going to decorate the white siding of our house with them."

Instead of fighting back with hate, Harris decided on a more creative plan. She created a GoFundMe fundraising page to raise money so her home can become even more colorful.

"I am starting this fundraiser so I can work to make my Home even More 'relentlessly gay' If we go high enough, I will see if I can get a Rainbow Roof!" she wrote.
