Here's some good news for those who like to travel in style with man's best friend!

Scenic Hotel Te Pania Napier has rolled out the welcome mat to guests and their dogs, as New Zealand's first full-service dog-friendly hotel.

The hotel's general manager Kerryann Gibbs described the new service as "progressive in delivering a total holiday experience for guests and their fur friends".

The so-called "woofer's welcome" extended by the hotel carries a surcharge of $25 to cover any accidents that may happen in the room.

At this stage, the service must be booked directly thought the hotel and is subject to limited availability.

The waterfront location of Scenic Hotel Te Pania means it's an ideal location for guests to take their dog for a walk down the promenade or one of the nearby dog parks.

"The move gives comfort and peace of mind to those who are reluctant to take a holiday because of having to leave their beloved pets," Ms Gibbs said.

As the hotel had a family focus, she said it was appropriate that furry members of the family be included as well.
