US singing group perform most magical version of ‘Happy Birthday’ you'll hear for Kiwi

It’s a song we all know and likely hear every year before we blow out the candles on our birthday cake.

But let’s be honest, more often than not the Happy Birthday song is a little cringe ... Until now!

New Zealander abroad, Jono Palmer, was treated to the birthday tradition but with a delightful new twist thanks to an American singing ensemble.

The group from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music – known as the Singing Hoosiers – performed what has got to be one of the most magical versions of Happy Birthday that you will ever hear. Just listen for yourself above, isn't it lovely?

The stunning version is sung for every member of the Grammy-nominated group on their birthday according to Jono – who is in the doctoral programme studying choral conducting, and features in the group as their assistant conductor.

During the performance, which Jono videoed to share with his friends and family back home in Aotearoa via Facebook, he can be heard saying "say hello to New Zealand", before the Singing Hoosiers waves at the camera. So sweet!

If only every Happy Birthday could be this good!
