A man from Australia has broken the record for the world's loudest burp.

Neville Sharp, from the Northern Territory, managed to unofficially surpass a record set by British man Paul Dunn in 2009, with an incredible 110.6 decibels.

To put that into perspective, his burp is louder than a rock gig, chainsaw or motorcycle.

While he undertook the effort in a soundproof recording studio, he is yet to be recognised by the Guinness World Records, who have to formally test his burp.

"It's been a bit of a goal from when I was a kid," Sharp told NT News. Sharp prepares for his work with a can of coke or ice-cold water. "I'm always training. I just have to ask my next door neighbours behind us."
