The terrifying moment lightning hit just metres away from a Kiwi woman has been captured on camera.

Auckland woman Amy Buncuga was filming the storm outside her Blockhouse Bay bedroom when she got the fright of her life has a bolt of lightning struck a little too close to comfort.

"I shat myself," she told the NZ Herald.

"I was so surprised I got that. It was so close … I thought I'd try get some cool lightning videos and I got that. I screamed so loud."

More than 800 lightning strikes were recorded this morning in Auckland.
