It's supposed to be a moment you'll treasure forever - a story to share with your children and grandchildren.

But you'd be surprised how many people get marriage proposals wrong - spectacularly so, in fact, according to the Daily Mail.

People have been sharing the worst ways to pop the question on Reddit - and some of them are the stuff of nightmares.

By far the most unpopular way to propose was in public in front of thousands of people.

In close second was popping the question at someone else's wedding or just after getting a pregnancy test.

It goes without saying that proposing at someone else's wedding - or funeral for that matter - is an absolute no-no.

Proposing in public was by far the most unpopular way of popping the question, as revealed by anonymous people on the forum.

Proposing marriage in a blind panic after a positive pregnancy test was mentioned by several as one of the worst ways to pop the question.

Other people said it was a bad idea to propose 'as a joke' or in an awkward situation.

Many people cited proposing on April Fools' Day as the worst possible idea, and many said getting down on one knee in the airport before one of you is about to leave is also a huge no-no.

One woman explained how her mother-in-law had to ask for her hand in marriage as her son was too shy to do so, whilst another said you should always propose sober.

Hiding the ring in the cake may work in cheesy movies but it's not so practical in real life, as these men and women revealed.
