Shampooing and conditioning your hair might seem like a simple task, but it turns out we’ve been doing it wrong for years.

Now, experts tell us we’re supposed to use conditioner BEFORE shampoo.

Apparently, it’s a great way of ‘adding nourishment to fine hair without weighing it down’, according to Kérastase’s artistic director, Nina Dimachki.

‘It also promotes a longer lasting blowdry and primes the hair before cleansing, allowing shampoo to distribute easier and more evenly.’

Those with highlights, hair that’s prone to greasiness or hair that tangles easily should also switch the order of their regime.

And while we’ve always been told to only condition from the ears down, this doesn’t apply when conditioning comes first – you can go cray on the conditioner from root to tip, according to Dimachki.

‘You will be cleansing it after, so your hair won’t be weighed down or oily.’
