An Auckland intermediate school is currently in lockdown.

A spokeswoman at Blockhouse Bay Intermediate School, in West Auckland, confirmed they were under lockdown, but would not make any further comment.

An email message to parents this afternoon said there had been a lockdown at school "due to two vicious dogs on school grounds".

"A teacher was attacked."

Students were all safe, the email said.

A northern police communications spokesman said two dogs were on the loose on the school's property, on Bolton Street, and that students had to be kept inside.

The spokesman said they were informed at about 3pm and Animal Control was called to the school immediately.
