Gymphobia Is Actually A Real Thing In NZ!

You almost couldn't believe this... in new research released by Curves gyms, it’s been revealed that Kiwis all across the country are failing to exercise because of “GYMPHOBIA” aka the fear of gyms!

45% of New Zealanders, that’s 1.3 million people, have admitted to experiencing anxiety whilst exercising in public with 18-24 yr olds the most prone to gym-induced anxiety!

Even more surprisingly, females are TWICE as likely to be scared of going to the gym because they don’t look good in Lycra!

The other stats…

  • Women are more than TWICE as likely to label themselves as a GYMPHOBE compared with men 
  • 65% of Kiwis avoid exercising because they feel anxious going to the gym
  • 16% of New Zealanders consider themselves ‘Gymphobes’
  • 47% of New Zealanders say they are not effective with their gym workout
