Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will now be counting down!

There's just over two months to go until the pair marry at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

And the closer we get to the royal wedding; the more intimate details are being shared.

But Markle has left fans raising their eyebrows after the latest wedding revelation.

According to the Daily Mail, a source close to Meghan said the dress that she will marry the 33-year-old royal in is said to have cost an eye-watering £400,000 (NZ$765,000)!

Speaking to the publication the insider said: "Meghan is like any other bride preparing for her dream day.

"The wedding dress has been the biggest expense, and the budget has now doubled from what it originally was."

Meanwhile, there's growing speculation as to which designer the 36-year-old will wear on her big day.

Royal followers are putting their bets on Markle following in the Duchess of Cambridge's footsteps and opting for an Alexander McQueen gown.

The former 'Suits' actress had previously hinted in an interview with Glamour magazine she would not choose a gown like the Anne Barge wedding dress her character Rachel Zane wore, and that her ideal wedding dress would be "classic and simple".

"It's not my personal style, because I'm a lot more relaxed than Rachel but I love that I got to play dress up in this gown", Meghan said.

"Classic and simple is the name of the game, perhaps with a modern twist."

"I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic."

Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen designed Kate Middleton's wedding gown in 2011.

The intricate lace and silk tulle gown is thought to have cost £250,000 (NZ$476,000), almost half the rumoured cost of Meghan's.

Meghan and Harry will on May 19 at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.
