Rumours have reignited that a sequel to the 90s classic Space Jam could be in the works- including basketball superstar LeBron James!

SpringHill Entertainment, the production company owned by LeBron James and business partner Maverick Carter, has recently entered into a partnership with Warner Bros, the Wall Street Journal reports.

It's a move that has a whole lot of 90s kids excited for one reason- Space Jam 2.

Back in 2012, James started the rumours off when he tweeted at a fan saying he wished he could star in a sequel to the 1996 film.

Space Jam starred Michael Jordan and features a team of Warner Bros cartoon characters who took on a team of aliens with stolen NBA powers to save themselves from enslavement.

An IMDB page exists for Space Jam 2 and in 2014 Deadline reported that the sequel was in the works - starring LeBron James, although he denied it at the time.

Warner Bros also filed new trademarks for Space Jam just last month, adding credence to the rumours.

The original Space Jam made US$90 million (NZ$135m) at the box office and remains the highest grossing basketball movie ever.
