Watch Will Smith perform HIS version the song 'Friend Like Me' from Aladdin!

Will Smith is set to play the iconic role of the Genie in Disney’s upcoming live-action version of Aladdin.

And while the star admits he was hesitant to take on the role - made famous by the late Robin Williams in the original animated movie – Will knew he could do it the first time he took his own twist on the song Friend Like Me.

Appearing on The Tonight Show, Will revealed to host Jimmy Fallon how that moment unfolded with an impromptu performance of his updated, hip-hop version of the song.

Bringing is Fresh Prince style, Will raps the lyrics of the song set to the drumbeat of The Honey Drippers’ 1973 track, Impeach the President … And it really works perfectly!

It definitely makes us extra excited to see the upcoming movie, which is set to be released in New Zealand on May 23.

Sharing his version of Friend Like Me wasn’t the only Aladdin-themed antics Will got up to on The Tonight Show – he also took on Jimmy in a hilarious Magic Carpet race.
