For some reason a debate is raging on Twitter over whether the ultimate French fry partner-in-crime, ketchup, should be kept cool or in the pantry.
@mdusing what kind of monster keeps (opened) ketchup in the pantry?

@paluchador @mdusing The kind that doesn't like his French fries cold because of condiments. It's stable at room temp, think of restaurants.

I could never be with someone that keeps their ketchup in the cupboard not the fridge.

Well, we have the answer: Refrigerate it — always!
According to an interview with microbiologist for Initial Hygiene Dr. Peter Barratt's in The Daily Mail, "No one kept tomato ketchup in the fridge a decade ago, but then it contained more salt. In recent years, food manufacturers have had to cut the amount of salt, a natural preservative, because of its links to high blood pressure... However, while ketchup could keep safely in the cupboard for a couple of weeks, it's best kept in the fridge and eaten within the stated eight-week period," Barratt said.
So there you have it. Plus there's nothing better than the contrast of a hot fry and some cold sauce if you ask us!
