Ariana Grande has just been cast in movie version of 'Wicked' and we cannot wait to see it

Musical theatre fans, you’re in for a real treat!

The amazing Broadway musical Wicked - a spin-off of The Wizard of Oz telling the story of how the Wicked Witch of the West became ... well, wicked - is coming to the silver screen and is set to star none other than Ariana Grande as one of the leading ladies.

The exciting news revealed that the Positions singer will be taking on the role of Glinda the Good Witch of the North, while the part of  Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West has gone to British star Cynthia Erivo.

The parts were both first played by Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth in the stage show’s original run.

Ariana took to Instagram to share her delight over the casting, showing photos of her celebrating via Zoom with co-star Cynthia and the movie’s director Jon M Chu, who is known for his work on Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights.

Jon shared his own post, writing: "Wait until you see what they bring!! It is otherworldly. Ahhhhh!!!"

The two actresses also exchanged notes and flowers, with Cynthia writing to Ariana: "Congratulations Miss A, the part was made for you, I look forward to sharing this musical journey with you. Love, Cynthia."

While Ariana replied with her own note: "Dear Cynthia, honoured doesn't even begin to cover it. I cannot wait to hug you. See you in Oz."
