'The Love Hypothesis' is the rom-com everyone's about to obsess over

Prime Video just dropped the perfect rom-com teaser, and we can't stop watching.

If your idea of a perfect watch is something in the Off Campus universe - swoony, a little chaotic, and guaranteed to hit you right in the feels - The Love Hypothesis just became your new most-anticipated.

The Love Hypothesis hasn't dropped yet, but the teaser is out, and it's already that thing everyone is texting their friends about. Based on Ali Hazelwood's bestselling novel (yes, the BookTok book), this one has been on the radar for a while and from the looks of it, it's going to deliver.

So no, you haven't missed it. If anything, you're right on time.

The fake dating story that's going to wreck you (in the best way)

At first glance, The Love Hypothesis feels like your classic will-they-won't-they. But don't be fooled; this one goes hard on the feelings just as much as the swoon.

Olive (Lili Reinhart) is a PhD candidate with her whole future planned out. When she realises her best friend has fallen for her crush, she does the only reasonable thing ... kisses the most intimidating professor on campus (Tom Bateman) to prove she's moved on. They agree to fake date. Rules are set. Boundaries are established. And then, obviously, absolutely everything gets complicated.

It's giving enemies-to-lovers meets academic pressure, meets slow burn so good it physically hurts.

Why it's going to be a hit

If you loved the emotional pull of Off Campus or any of those BookTok romances that balance humour with just enough angst, this is exactly in that lane. It's not a teen love story - it's a little more grounded, a little more grown up, and that's what makes it land harder.

Also worth noting, this is based on a book, and from what Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman said at the premiere event, they kept the original novel close throughout filming. The spirit of the story is intact, and that's going to matter to everyone who's already read it twice.

Who's in it

  • Lili Reinhart as Olive - Riverdale fans already know she can do chaotic and lovable in her sleep
  • Tom Bateman as Adam - bringing the brooding, slightly terrifying professor energy we did not know we needed
  • Rachel Marsh, Nicholas Duvernay, Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushan rounding out the cast

It's one of those ensembles where everyone just fits, and the chemistry between the two leads is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Mark it in your calendar

This is the one you put on thinking it'll be a chill watch, and then suddenly you're fully invested, a little emotional, and rewatching the trailer immediately after.

Funny, chaotic, and genuinely heartfelt - The Love Hypothesis is coming to Prime Video on September 23, and we cannot wait.
