Bridgerton's new star drops racy season 2 hints: 'There's a lot of sexual tension'

New Bridgerton star Simone Ashley says there is "a lot of sexual tension" in Season Two of the Netflix show which is why she will not be watching it with her parents.

The 26-year-old actress will be seen as the new character Kate Sharma in the Regency era period drama set in London and due to the plot and on-screen scenes, she will be participating in a watch along with her mother and father Latha and Gunasekharan.

In an interview with NET-A-PORTER's PORTER magazine, she said: "The second season is much grittier. There’s a lot of drama and a lot of sexual tension. My parents will be watching it – but not with me!"

In the Q&A, Simone - who was born Simone Ashwini Pillai - also opened up on her views about representing the South Asian community.

Simone's parents are Tamil Indians, but the former Broadchurch star doesn't want to be a "spokesperson for Indian people".

She said: "I am deeply proud of my heritage [but] no, I’m not a spokesperson for Indian people, I’m an actress. For me, my responsibility is to read the script, do the work, turn up on set and do a great job. That’s it. I guess everyone deals with it in their own way, but I am an actress at the end of the day. Opportunities should be open for any individual, and I just think us being there is enough."

The former Sex Education star opens up about having a busy work schedule, but will still find the time for self-care, not having her phone insight is one of the ways she achieves this.

The star said: "I always make sure I get 20 minutes at the end of the day to just switch off. I’ve got a dog, so I walk her every morning. Even if I’m knackered or bored, I put my phone away and I take her for an hour and a half in the morning. Knowing that I’ve been in the fresh air, that I’ve been in a park, it makes such a difference."

Bridgerton's first season was a runaway hit for Netflix, having been watched by an estimated 63 million households across the globe.

Bridgerton's second season hits Netflix on March 25.
