Ed Sheeran just dropped a surprise song 'Afterglow' and we absolutely love it

Ed Sheeran has given us all an early Christmas present!

The British singer-songwriter dropped a surprise song titled Afterglow this morning and it’s blown us all away.

Ed shared a one-take video of him performing the song on his social media channels, receiving more than one million views on YouTube (and counting) since it was uploaded.

"We were love drunk waiting on a miracle / Trying to find ourselves in the winter snow / So alone in love like the world had disappeared / Oh I won’t be silent and I won’t let go / I will hold on tighter ‘til the afterglow / And we’ll burn so bright ‘til the darkness softly clears," Ed sings in the chorus of the emotional acoustic track.

The song marks Ed’s first release since his 2019 No. 6 Collaborations Project which saw him team up with artists such as Justin Bieber, Camilla Cabello, Bruno Mars, and more.

Talking about the new track, Ed simply shared in a statement: "Hey guys. Afterglow is a song I wrote last year that I wanted to release for you.

"It’s not the first single from the next album, it’s just a song I love and hope you love too. Enjoy! Have a safe and happy festive break and New Year’s. Back to dad land for me now, ciao x."
