New Zealand is set to move down to Alert Level 1 at midnight tonight!

It’s official! New Zealand will move from Alert Level 2 down to Alert Level 1 from midnight tonight.

This means tomorrow - Tuesday, June 9 - all restrictions on businesses and gatherings are lifted and physical distancing is "encouraged" instead of being mandatory.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced the move to Alert Level 1, but also warned that it is likely New Zealand will see cases of Covid-19 again in the future as restrictions lift.

She encouraged Kiwis to maintain high hygiene standards and to continue to track your movements so that if contact tracing needs to happen it will be able to happen swiftly.

Jacinda also went on to commend Kiwis and our "team of 5 million" on amazing job they did to swash the virus. She also encouraged New Zealanders to buy local and visit tourist areas around Aotearoa to help stimulate the local economy.

This news comes after it was announced earlier today that there are no active cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.

The final case, an Auckland woman in her 50s, has now recovered from the virus, and there are no new confirmed or probable Covid-19 cases.

The golden rules of Alert Level 1:

• If you are sick, stay home

• If you have cold or flu-like symptoms get tested

• Wash your hands, Wash your hands, Wash your hands

• Sneeze and cough into your elbow and regularly disinfect shared surfaces

• If you are told by health authorities to self isolate you must do so immediately

• If concerned about your wellbeing or you have underlying health conditions, consult with your GP

• Keep track of where you've been and who you've seen so we can use that for contact tracing if needed

• Businesses should help with rule seven by displaying a QR code

• Stay vigilant
