Spark Arena just got world recognition

Spark Arena has officially been named one of the world's top 20 arenas by IQ Magazine.

Spark Arena has been named an Arena Star 2026 by IQ Magazine, placing it among the top 20 arenas in the world. The recognition, awarded as part of IQ's annual Global Arena Guide, puts the Auckland venue alongside some of the most iconic live entertainment spaces on the planet, including The O2 in London, United Centre in Chicago, and Avicii Arena in Stockholm.

The Arena Stars list identifies venues that set the global benchmark for live entertainment. Spark Arena was singled out for its remarkable versatility: a production system enabling configurations anywhere from 2,500 to 13,000 attendees, and a reputation as one of the most adaptable entertainment venues across the entire Asia-Pacific region.

95% Concert waste diverted from landfill on average

The honour follows a standout run of shows. In March 2026, Linkin Park's From Zero World Tour shattered the venue's all-time attendance record with 12,736 fans packed in for a single night. Recent highlights have also included Dua Lipa's Radical Optimism Tour, the Deftones, and Mumford & Sons' Prizefighter Tour. Later this year, Spark Arena will host Zara Larsson's Midnight Sun Tour, Hilary Duff's The Lucky Me Tour, and J. Cole's The Fall-Off World Tour.

Spark Arena's place among the world's top 20 arenas is a huge point of pride, not just for the venue and its team, but for Auckland and for New Zealand's live music industry.

Guy Ngata, Senior Vice President, Live Nation New Zealand

As the venue approaches its 20th anniversary in 2027, significant recent investment has delivered four new premium suites, expanded capacity, and a full front-of-house refurbishment. The sustainability story is equally impressive: Spark Arena has earned the Toitū Carbon Reduction certification three years running and consistently diverts an average of 95% of concert waste from landfill.

We are ultimately driven by consistency — delivering great experiences night after night, across every format and genre. This award from IQ and the wider industry is recognition of that.

Mark Gosling, General Manager, Spark Arena

The Arena Stars nod is part of a broader spotlight on New Zealand's live music market. In its June 2026 edition, IQ Magazine selected New Zealand as its dedicated market focus — noting that the country consistently punches above its weight on the world stage — and featured the country's arena circuit in the Global Arena Guide 2026. Not bad for a nation of five million.
