Looking to get the perfect cup of coffee from your local barista?

Well, there's one major faux pas thing you'll want to avoid doing according to one Sydney coffee guru.

Franco Amitrano, the owner of Cafe & Cucina, has been making coffee for over two decades, serving around 500 to 550 cups each day. So, it's safe to say he knows a thing or two about what makes a great cafe customer.

When asked on news.com.au's podcast I’ve Got News For You about things that customers do that annoy baristas, Amitrano was diplomatic at first: "Look, I'm very patient. I love all my customers," he said.

But he did have one pet peeve: "The only thing that sometimes gets on my nerves is when they have their headphones in and are checking emails, and I'm calling their coffee out and they don't even notice. That's the only thing that annoys me."

Amitrano also mentioned that it can be a little bothersome when customers bring in their reusable cups without washing them first. "But we love our customers – we don't mind," he added.

And for those who may have had a bad experience with a barista, Amitrano assured listeners that he does not hold grudges: "No, we don't. We treat everyone the same."

So, next time you're looking to get your caffeine fix, be sure to give your barista your full attention, and don't forget to wash your reusable cup before bringing it in.

And always remember, a happy barista equals a happy coffee!
