Urinating before sex, has always been promoted as a good way to prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs), but it turns out that it may actually increase your chances of contracting a UTI.
According to New York City urologist David Kauffman urinating could actually increase the risk of infection, which women tend to experience more than men. He said that urinating before sex to prevent a UTI is one of the most common misconceptions he has had to tackle with his female patients, and is also “the number one cause of post-coital urinary tract infections, also known as honeymoon cystitis”.
Emptying the bladder after sex is advised as the correct form of preventing UTIs, along with drinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration and help clear bacteria from the urinary tract.
