IT’S the close encounter with a great white shark at Manly that has YouTube and social media lighting up.

But is it real?

Terry Tufferson’s sensational video, quickly gaining traction worldwide after being uploaded just yesterday, bills itself as a “close call with a great white shark in Sydney Harbour”.

The man in the footage straps a GoPro camera to his head as he prepares to leap from Manly’s notorious and popular Jump Rock off Collins Beach.

Once entering the water the man looks back to his friends at the top of Jump Rock to see them screaming “shark”.

A great white shark can then be seen at various points throughout the 1:39 sec video as the man allegedly swims for his life.

A cursory glance at the footage would lead most people to assume the footage is legitimate.

But the internet is full of conspiracy theorists and this time they may have gotten it right.

Comments on the YouTube footage claim the video to be a fake due to the shark’s “teleportation” at the 59-second mark.

The shark can be seen briefly before disappearing and suddenly reappearing in a separate part of the shot.
