Afterwards, Williams said the match could have gone "either way". "We could have been sitting on the ground there knowing that four years of hard work is over. "Between the two countries, there's a massive rivalry but off the field there's nothing but respect...You can't really console them, say things to make them happy. But it could have been us." The RFU spent $5.5 million creating a state of the art training facility for England's 2015 World Cup campaign only for the host nation to crash out of the tournament in pool play.
