Kiwi brides tell Jono and Ben how they pulled off the cheapest weddings ever

Weddings often end up being extravagant events that have a price tag to match.

But some thrifty love birds have revealed how they cut costs completely for their big day.

After hearing Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez dropped only $75 on their Vegas wedding – the cost of the fee for the famous Little White Chapel - Jono and Ben decided to see if they could find the Kiwi couple who had the cheapest wedding.

From the get-go, Kiwi callers stunned Jono and Ben with their inexpensive nuptials, including Sam – who managed to pull off a quick wedding for just $50!

When asked what she spent the money on, Sam explained: "Nothing. Absolutely nothing. My visa was expiring, so we had to get married so I could get a visa."

Sam went on to reveal that not only did they have to rush the wedding, but they had to beg the celebrant at the courthouse to marry them – as it turned out there was a six-week wait they were unaware of.

"We had to beg the guy to marry us,” she told Jono and Ben, "We were like, ‘please, please, please. We have to leave the country and we need our visas sorted'".

"And he said, 'okay, just wait. I'm gonna just like fit you in'. Then that was it and [my husband] took me for pancakes."

Jono joked that Sam’s now six-year marriage to her husband was "a marriage based on love and visa applications."

And Sam confirmed that she definitely didn’t marry her husband "for his money". Love it!

However, it turns out there is another couple that went even cheaper for their big day!

Caller Kylie revealed that her parents tied the knot for just $15 which covered the cost of the wedding certificate.

As for wedding attire, Kylie’s mum wore an old-school ball dress and her father wore a t-shirt and shorts. The event was followed up with a BBQ with the seven people who were in attendance.

Kylie says her parent's wedding has definitely inspired her own potential wedding plans in the future.

Just went Jono and Ben thought they’d found the cheapest wedding, they got a call from Claire who actually made a profit off her wedding! Wow!

"We were in the UK had no money, just had a baby," Claire explained. "My husband was a photojournalist and he decided it be great to get married in a hot air balloon because he had contacts with this hot air balloon company."

But it wasn’t just the hot air balloon that ended up being free for the then bride-to-be. The couple also had the use of a vintage car to the church, and a boat from the church to the reception - where the hot air balloon was waiting - donated to them.

"So my husband decided that he was gonna sell the story to the Daily Mail," Claire continued, "Because he was a photojournalist, he kind of had all the contact, so they bought the story."

Now that’s a pretty cool way to kick off a marriage.
