Kiwis can now see new musical movie ‘In The Heights’ this weekend, two weeks before release

Kiwis don’t have to wait any longer for the highly anticipated movie musical In The Heights.

Based on Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical, In The Heights officially hits cinemas on June 24 after being delayed because of Covid-19.

However, cinemas around New Zealand are showing special advance screenings of the vibrant flick for those who absolutely cannot wait to see it!

From Friday, June 11 through until Sunday, June 13 musical fans can get in on limited advance screenings being shown in movie theatres across the country – click here to find your local cinema.

Directed by Jon M. Chu – who also directed Crazy Rich Asians – In The Heights is stars the likes of Anthony Ramos (Hamilton), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn 99), Melissa Barrera, and even features a special cameo by the Tony-winning stage show's original star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The musical tells the story of a Latino community living in New York City's Washington Heights block and Usnavi - played by Ramos - a young bodega (which is sort of like a corner dairy) owner who dreams of a better life and returning to his homeland the Dominican Republic. 

And of course, the movie features absolutely stunning choreography and songs written by Miranda from the Broadway show.
