Carter Blanchard has a skin condition called vitiligo which turns skin white as pigment cells are destroyed.

The 8-year-old didn't like the way he looked and felt incredibly alone.

That is until he met Rowdy, a black labrador with the exact same condition.

The white spots around Rowdy's eyes made the 13-year-old dog famous on the internet and when Carter's mother, Stephanie Adcock, discovered him she knew she had to show her son.

"I read that Rowdy had vitiligo, and I was blown away," Adcock said, "When I showed Carter, he was so excited to see a dog that was famous for his vitiligo."

The two eventually got to meet in real life and became instant friends. Rowdy also helped Carter gain a new confidence in himself and he is now embracing his rare skin condition.

"It couldn’t be any other person that made him feel better," Adcock told KATU.com.

"It had to be Rowdy. It had to be a dog."
